Mit dem Link Aggregation Control Protocol lassen sich mehrere physikalische Verbindungen auf dem Link Layer bündeln und zu einer logischen Link Aggregation Group (LAG) zusammenfassen. LACP sorgt für die dynamische Konfiguration der logischen Verbindung. Gegenüber dem Betrieb einzelner Links erhöht sich die nutzbare Bandbreite. Zudem steigt die Verfügbarkeit der Verbindung. LAGs können zwischen Switches und zwischen Switches und Netzwerkgeräten wie Servern eingerichtet werden.
